Law firms really do need separation agreements

Today my article “Why Law Firms Need Separation Agreements” finally arrived. The article looks at how Vance v. Griggs, 324 S.W.3d 471 (Mo. App. W.D. 2010), alters Missouri law on whether a lawyer may claim fees a prior firm receives after the lawyer leaves for a case on which the lawyer worked when at the firm. Vance v. Griggs is a powerful reminder that law firms can use employment agreements and separation agreements to manage risks from lateraling lawyers.
