Payments to defrauded Missouri clients spiked in 2011, MoBar reports

Today the Missouri Bar issued its 2011-12 Annual Report. One interesting detail in the report is that payments from the Missouri Client Security Fund increased to $272,269.55 in 2011 from $185,074.44 in 2010 -- an increase of  almost 50 percent.

I suspect this is a one-year spike, particularly since (a) the number of claims paid actually dropped, from 60 to 74; and (b) the 2011 total still trails the recent (and possible historic) high of $313,695.85 in 2007. But it will be interesting to see if the trend is for greater payouts, particularly with the struggling economy.
